06 Jan 10 Earning Money With A Free Blog

Practically everyone has a free blog by now.  Most of us blog as a hobby, or out of a need to express something to the outside world.  But have you ever thought about turning that into a source of passive income?  The free blog that you keep right now could be easily converted into your own private gold mine, with little extra effort on your part.

Keep in mind that content is key.  Converting a free blog into a money making blog is a long difficult process, but one that you complete by putting the work in.  Make sure that your blog has an attractive and visually appealing template.  Something that makes a user feel comfortable, and that allows your blog to be easily read.  A safe bet is to use cooler colors, as they are more calming, instead of anything too vibrant.

Your writing will also need a little bit of an upgrade as well.  You’re not just writing for yourself anymore, you’re writing to get people to find your blog and remain interested.  That means you have to write concise, not overly long, and entertaining entries.  Let your unique voice and personality shine, and make sure not to write entries that are too long.  Readers want to be entertained, but long articles can leave most doubting whether or not they want to read what’s written.

From there you should be able to steadily build an audience.  You want to pay attention to traffic and the amount of time the average user is on your site.  You can find resources for this through services like Google’s Analytics.  See what content inspires interest, and try and build on your good stats by writing to those strengths.

Now you should be ready to make a little money.  Use programs like Google’s Adsense, and look to websites like Amazon.com which offer payment for affiliate links.  Through these you can start earning money off the traffic from your blog.  Just remember, the longer you keep someone on the page, the more impressions and likelihood of clicks you’re going to get.  You want as much as possible of both.  With grabbing headlines and engaging content, you should be well on your way.

23 Nov 09 5 More Reasons Why You Should Join Twitter

he 140-character magic has made us more creative. Now we know about our power to express whatever we want in 140 characters. Before twitter, it was unbelievable. We thought we can never say anything by spending so less letters. Even our text messages used more letters than that. Twitter came and showed us what all we are capable of, but not everyone believed it. There still are people who do not know why Twitter is such a phenomenon. In the last post, I gave 5 Reasons in favor of Joining Twitter, which I think was not sufficient, therefore, I am writing 5 more reasons here.

Reason 1: To express what you feel

We express ourselves, we do it daily, and we do it in huge chunks. We talk about how we feel about certain government decision, certain blog, certain people, certain ideas, certain system, etc., but what about “what are you doing” questions? Well, twitter asks you this, and it gets all sorts of answers in maximum 140 characters. This is a great way to express yourself by giving bit-size information, rather than bearing the burden of need lot to say

Reason 2: To listen what others have to say

A good communication is the one in which you listen double as much as you speak. People will listen to you only when you will listen to them. It holds true with twitter communication as well. This tool help you listen to what people has to say, and to understand their point of view on the matter as well.

Reason 3: To strike conversation

Twitter is not Instant messaging (IM) service, but still you can strike conversation here, Use @your friend’s name to send a reply to what your friend has to say, or send a direct message (or DM them in twitter term) and begin the ping-pong game of conversation.

Reason 4: To know where is your friend

In most of the cases, your friend will tell on her own that where she is and what she is doing. If you are following your friend closely then I am sure she will tell you all about her there. As the news has come to me, twitter is going to allow geo-stamp (geographic location stamp) on the tweets, which means you can tell from where your friend has tweeted.

Reason 5: To sound knowledgeable

You do not need to be an Einstein to sound knowledgeable, you just need to be on top of the news, and what too is better than twitter in achieving that? Follow what you love most or what your peer group wants to hear from you and talk as if you own the information. Twitter can help you in doing all this.

06 Jun 09 Tyranny of the Market and the Power of Positioning

Jack trout and Al Ries are the names behind arguably the most powerful marketing concept of all time, positioning. Positioning, since the beginning, has become the uniting force behind all the marketing and related activities undertaken by any company to promote its brand or brands. Defined in the simplest of terms, positioning is the battle of mindshare. Positioning refers to the place that a brand has occupied in the mind of its target audience vis-à-vis competition.

As the definition suggest, positioning can only be done in reference to other brands present in the market. If there is no other brand in the market you are serving, you do not need to position your brand. If you are the only player in the market then the entire market is yours, but as soon as the second player enters the market, you need to convey your buyer about the benefits, the brand attributes, brand  personality, brand standing in the market, and the value your brand deliver. You needed to differentiate your brand because you do not want to confuse your customer. If you fail to differentiate, your customers will not buy from you. You need to give your customers the reason to buy as no one likes to do business with a me-too company.

There are many ways to position a brand in the market, and which strategy you will choose depends not only on the nature of the brand but it also depends upon the nature of the competitors as well as the available slot in the mind of the consumer.

The concept of positioning is as applicable for the online products as it is for a product sold in your local supermarket. Both are vying for the customer’s attention, which is getting scarcer. In the today’s world of hyper-competition, just positioning your brand on any attribute will not fetch much result. To get a substantial result, you need to power-position your brand. You need to explore and express the connect between your brand and the customer’s mindset. This can only be done if you are aware of the customer’s changing need. While saying so, I assumed you already have a thorough understanding of your brand. If this is not true then your work should begin with understanding your brand, and finding the community that is more likely to swear by it. If you have a really good product then finding this key will not be difficult, but if you are just another brand in the category, I will suggest changing the business or building a key differentiation in your brand.

Consumers are hyper-active these days. If social bookmarking and social networking have made it easier for you to reach your customer then these services also minimized the distance between two customers. You should keep this in mind, while attempting any trick on your customers. It could mark the end for your brand.
